PROJECT DETAILS
The City of San Jose commissioned a visibility study comparing detection distances between LED, Induction, and High Pressure Sodium luminaires. The study was managed by the City of San Jose and designed by Continuum's strategic partner Clanton & Associates. Data was collected by Virginia Technology Transportation Institute and Continuum helped to conduct the surveys and tests. The collaboration built on the findings of the Anchorage Visibility Study and produced additional data sets on glare, detection of small objects, and energy efficiency potential when combining LED or Induction technologies with demand response lighting control systems. In addition, the study added to existing data by testing in wet road conditions and analyzing the relative power of skyglow between LED and HPS technologies. In conjunction with their Advanced Street Lighting Technologies Assessment Project, San Jose also released a new Public Streetlight Design Guide. Please download the PDFs of the papers below.
